Why Research?
Participating in research allows you to expand your knowledge outside of your classroom experiences. By taking advantage of Ohio State’s vast research opportunities, you can contribute to ground breaking discoveries and work with faculty and research staff who are nationally recognized in their field. Research experiences can also make you more competitive for post-baccalaureate fellowships and scholarships, as well as entrance into the best graduate and professional schools and jobs.
Denman Forum
The Ohio State University is committed to the participation of undergraduate
students in research. The Richard
J. and Martha D. Denman Undergraduate Research Forum provides a means for
undergraduate students to share their research with faculty, staff, fellow
students and members of the Ohio State University community. Students present
their research through poster presentations and are judged by three faculty and
corporate judges. Awards are given in 11 categories and students of all
disciplines are encouraged to present.
A number of Pre-Denman Workshops will be presented to help students to prepare

The next Denman Forum will be held on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 in the RPAC.
Applications for the 2012 Denman Forum will be available on line at denman.osu.edu, as of February 2012.
The Denman Undergraduate Research Forum was created in 1996 and is a cooperative
effort of Ohio State University's Honors & Scholars Center, Office of
Undergraduate Research, Office of Research, and Office of University
Development. The forum is supported by Emeritus University Foundation Board
member and Ohio State alumni Richard and Martha Denman of Rancho Santa Fe,
California, and various corporate and individual donors. The forum provides many
advantages, benefits, and opportunities that can be considered "values added" to
the overall undergraduate student experience at Ohio State.

Honors Thesis
Graduation with Honors Research Distinction is the recognition of a student who has achieved research excellence in his or her field of study. This accomplishment is noted on the diploma, in the academic record of the graduate and graduates receives special commendation in the commencement ceremony and program.
Requirements
Undergraduate students interested in graduating with Honors Research Distinction
should contact their college honors advisor to find out the opportunities and
requirements for their specific major.
Among other requirements, students graduating with Honors Research Distinction
are required to complete an honors thesis (or a project in some disciplines).
All undergraduate students are required to submit their honors theses
electronically to the
Knowledge Bank.
In certain situations, a student may wish to delay the electronic dissemination
of his or her thesis. A student may request permission from the University
Honors and Scholars Center to have an embargo placed on the dissemination
through the Knowledge Bank for an approved period of time. Students wishing to
request permission for an embargo should review the Guidelines for Delaying
Electronic Dissemination of Theses and complete the Delay of Dissemination Form.
Summer Research Scholarships
The University Honors & Scholars Center, the Undergraduate Research Office, and
the College of Biological Sciences offer students annually three summer research funding
opportunities: The URO Summer Research Fellowships, Honors & Scholars Summer Research
Scholarships, and the Mayers Summer Research Scholarships. These awards provide students
with $3,500 with the expectation that students will commit to spending 40-hours per
week over 10 weeks doing research during Summer Quarter.
These scholarships are intended for students who are not receiving research funding
from other sources. Applications for these awards are now avaiable and can be accessed

The program’s goal is to increase the number of underrepresented students who pursue academic careers by enhancing their preparation for graduate study through intensive research experiences with faculty mentors. Pressey Honors Endowment Student Research Grant and Student Travel Grant
The Pressey Honors Endowment Grant Program assists students who are candidates
for graduation with distinction and who are not receiving other aid specifically
designated for undergraduate research. The maximum amount for which a student
may apply is
$300.00, and grants are awarded on a competitive basis. This application
should be submitted through your College Honors Director to Anne Krabacher,
University Honors & Scholars Center, 220 West 12th Avenue.
